ThinkBond 45T-3: The Ultimate CPU Adhesive for Elevator Wheel Bonding

Product Description

When manufacturing high-performance elevator wheels, reliable bonding between cast polyurethane (CPU) and metal components is critical. ThinkBond® 45T-3 is a specialized one-coat surface treatment designed precisely for this purpose. It serves as an exceptional CPU adhesive for elevator wheel applications, ensuring strong, durable adhesion between CPU, TPU, RIM, nylon, epoxy, and other elastomers with steel, aluminum, and other rigid substrates. This product also functions as a primer to enhance environmental resistance of subsequent coatings.

Key Features & Benefits

ThinkBond 45T-3 Fast Drying CPU Adhesive with Universal Compatibility and Excellent Environmental Resistance for Elevator Wheels 1

  • Universal Compatibility – Works with CPU, TPU, nylon 6/66, phenolic resins, and specialty rubbers – ideal for elevator wheel hybrid constructions.

  • Fast Drying – Contains quick-evaporating solvents to reduce manufacturing cycle time.

  • Easy Application – Can be sprayed, dipped, roll-coated, or brushed onto metal surfaces without complex mixing.

  • Excellent Environmental Resistance – Withstands high temperature, salt spray, solvents, and humidity – essential for elevator wheels exposed to varied conditions.

  • Pre-bake Capability – Pre-curing at 110–120°C (1–4 hours) maximizes adhesion strength and activation.

Why Choose ThinkBond® 45T-3 for Elevator Wheels?

Elevator wheels demand extreme durability, load-bearing capacity, and resistance to wear and environmental stress. ThinkBond® 45T-3 delivers:

  • Superior adhesion to sandblasted or chemically treated metal surfaces (roughness >15 μm).

  • Dry film thickness of 15–30 μm provides visible gloss and consistent coverage.

  • Compatible with PU XSJ, MPA, toluene, or MEK for viscosity adjustment.

  • Non-toxic, heavy-metal-free formulation – safe for production environments.

Application Guide for Elevator Wheel Manufacturing

  1. Surface preparation – Degrease, sandblast (alumina for aluminum), remove dust.

  2. Mixing – No agitation needed; dilute with recommended thinner if required.

  3. Application – Spray (dilute 100:20–100), dip (16–24 sec Zahn #2), or brush.

  4. Drying – 60 min @ RT or 15–20 min @50–60°C in ventilated oven (max 80°C).

  5. Prebake – 1–2h @110–120°C for normal parts; 2–4h for large wheels.

  6. Cure – Follow CPU vulcanization schedule.

FAQ

Q: Can ThinkBond® 45T-3 be used directly as a CPU adhesive for elevator wheel assembly?
A: Yes. It bonds CPU and other polyurethanes to metal hubs commonly used in elevator wheels, providing excellent initial and long-term adhesion.

Q: What dry film thickness is recommended?
A: 15–30 microns. At this range, the coated surface shows obvious gloss, ensuring proper coverage.

Q: Is prebake necessary?
A: Not mandatory, but highly recommended. Prebaking at 110–120°C enhances cohesive strength and activates the surface for maximum bond durability – especially important for heavy-load elevator wheels.

Q: How to avoid “dry spray” during application?
A: Dilute the adhesive properly (100:20 to 100 with PU XSJ or MPA) and maintain good spray technique.

Q: Is the product environmentally safe?
A: Yes, it contains no heavy metals and is non-toxic. However, use with adequate ventilation and avoid prolonged skin contact or solvent inhalation.
