Product Overview

Thinkbond 942 is a clear one-component solvent-based bonding agent for castable polyurethane elastomers and thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers (PU's and TPU's). This heavy metals-free product offers excellent environmental resistance to hot and cold water and fluids.

Application Guidelines

Metal Surface Preparation

Remove all oil, grease, and dirt from the metal surface. For optimal results, blast the surface with steel grit to achieve roughness greater than 15 µm. For aluminum surfaces, use aluminum oxide as abrasive. Clean again to remove blasting residue dust.

Application Methods

Brushing: Apply without dilution for small areas. For large areas, dilute with MEK to improve flow.

Spraying: Use HVLP gun with 1.5 Bar air-pressure and 1-1.5mm nozzle. Dilute 50-100% v/v.

Roller Coating: Dilute to 35-45 seconds on DIN 4 or Ford 4 cup at 25°C.

Drying & Curing

Dry film for 10-30 minutes at room temperature. For faster drying, use forced air at ≤100°C for 5 minutes. Maintain application layer thickness between 15-25 µm (≥25 µm for severe environments).

Storage

Keep container tightly closed and away from heat sources. Storage below 10°C extends shelf life. Parts with applied Thinkbond 942 can be stored for 30 days prior to cure.
