Product Description

Thinkbond 24S is a high-performance single-coat adhesive designed for thermal vulcanization bonding between various rubbers, metals, and other substrates. It also facilitates bonding of vulcanized rubber and connections between rubber and fiber cords or fabrics including cellulose, polyamide, polyester, and glass.

Key Features
  • Compatible with multiple molding vulcanization methods: molding, transfer, injection, and extrusion
  • Vulcanization temperature range: 120ºC - 230ºC
  • Excellent pre-curing resistance: maintains performance after 30 minutes at 160ºC
  • Dry film remains intact during mold transfer/injection without causing contamination
  • Suitable for post-cure bonding applications
  • Heavy metal-free formulation
Compatible Rubber Types

Natural rubber (NR), chlorohydrin rubber (ECO), styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), chlorosulfonated polyethylene (CSM), chloroprene rubber (CR), acrylic rubber (ACM), butadiene rubber (BR), carboxylated nitrile butadiene rubber (XNBR), isoprene rubber (IR), Vamac®, and EVA (EVM).

Technical Characteristics
  • Pre-curing resistance: withstands 160ºC for 30 minutes without performance degradation
  • Minimal mold contamination even at temperatures exceeding 200ºC
  • Heat resistance: bonded parts withstand 200ºC
  • Low temperature resistance: maintains integrity at -50ºC
  • Salt spray resistance: 1,000+ hours unloaded, 400+ hours loaded
  • Excellent dynamic and static fatigue resistance
  • Chemical resistance against solvents, oils, acids, bases, and hot/boiling water

Surface Preparation
  • Thoroughly remove oil, grease, and dirt from metal surface
  • Grit blast surface to achieve roughness >15 µm
  • For aluminum surfaces, use aluminum oxide abrasive
  • Clean substrate to remove blasting residue
  • Compatible with chemically treated surfaces (galvanizing, phosphating, KTL)
Application Instructions
A. Stirring

Thoroughly mix before application using high-speed mechanical stirring. Maintain periodic stirring (1-2 minutes every 10 minutes) during use.

B. Dilution

Add diluent while stirring to prevent incompatibility. For continuous dipping/spraying, maintain stirring to ensure uniform mixture.

C. Application Methods

C1. Dip coating: Direct application for small/simple parts; dilute for large/complex parts using toluene, xylene, or MEK mixtures.

C2. Conventional spraying: Use toluene/xylene diluents (1:1 ratio). Nozzle size: 0.5-1.0 mm, output: 330-350 ml/min.

C3. Airless spray: No dilution required (optional 25% toluene/xylene improves atomization). Nozzle size: 0.25-0.50 mm.

C4. Electrostatic spraying: Requires special equipment with conductivity 90-100 microamps.

C5. Brushing: Typically requires no dilution.

D. Coating Thickness

Optimal dry film thickness: 20 microns (minimum 15 microns, best performance at 25-35 microns).

E. Drying

Room temperature drying: 30-45 minutes. Forced drying: 80ºC for 5 minutes (up to 120ºC if needed).
